Jill’s story: finding inner calm with the Health Hub
Jill has enjoyed a long career with the CBA – 27 years and counting! But it’s always been in-branch and face-to-face with customers and colleagues. And while she thrived in her public-facing career, Jill found her inner calm during the pandemic.
When working remotely became a way of life, Jill discovered a newfound peace when she logged on to her first Health Hub meditation session.
“I’d always known about meditation – but I’d never really tried it. Working in the branches over the last two decades didn’t leave me much time. Maybe I made excuses! But when we went into lockdown, I embraced everything that came with working from home. I joined the Health Hub meditation sessions and I’m so glad I did.”
Offering the flexibility of several meditation sessions during the week, the Health Hub has found a staunch advocate in Jill who shares her love for meditation to anyone who listens – and even those who don’t!
“I can’t stop talking about how beneficial and accessible the sessions are. I share them with my team and I even add sessions in their calendars randomly! I’m a huge advocate. Meditation has been my ‘calm place’ for over a year.”
Jill has also found her favourite voice in Health Hub Wellness Consultant, Jasmine.
“Meditation with Jasmine is part of my daily routine now – I do it religiously. I log on every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday – Jasmine’s voice calms me.”
Once upon a time, Jill may have made ‘excuses’ about her emotional health routine, but thanks to the Health Hub’s recorded meditation sessions, she can tap into the peace of a class without leaving her home office.
“The sessions are so convenient in every way possible. I meditate at my desk first thing in the morning and if I’m having a hectic week and I need to miss a session, I listen to the recording. It’s a great way to catch up with my ‘calm’.”
Having spent over 20 years in a variety of branch roles, these days, Jill is enjoying the new challenges of her role as a Customer Service Direct Business Coach. No two days are alike but regular meditation has given Jill a peaceful respite from her packed schedule.
“I love my role but it’s very hectic and I’m always ‘on-the-move’ even while I’m sitting at my desk! I’m in a team of 15 and we facilitate workshops on customer empathy, conversations… all soft skills which are very important. We work with so many different teams from executives to branch personnel. There’s never a dull moment and that’s why I love my meditation because it grounds me. I’m high energy all day.”
Jill’s day starts when most of her family are either sound asleep or at the gym – it’s her most productive time.
“I’m sitting at my desk ready to go at around 6:45am – so the 8:30am guided meditation is perfect timing for me. I get ten minutes in the morning to reset my thoughts. I take my glasses off, move my mouse away and focus on being calm and centred. My brain is so busy and I’m easily distracted but meditation has given me amazing inner calm.”
As well as a measured approach to breathing, the Health Hub’s meditation sessions also focus on positive affirmations – something that Jill has welcomed wholeheartedly into her life – and approach to work.
“I absolutely love Jasmine’s affirmations. Over the last 12 months, they’ve helped reinforce my positive mindset and made it so much easier for me to set up my day for success.”
There’s no doubt that the meditation sessions have changed the way Jill works from home. As an early adopter, she’s also enjoyed watching the audience grow.
“I think I was one of the first to sign up for the online sessions so I’ve also loved seeing how many people have continued to join us each week – it’s awesome.”
As the Health Hub meditation sessions continue to go from strength to strength, Jill will keep up her cheerleading from the side-lines – or her desk.
“Absolutely! I would recommend the online sessions to everyone – you’re never too busy. You can always find ten minutes for yourself first thing in the morning or in the afternoon as a wind down after a stressful day. And you can catch up with a recording if you miss the live session.”
Jill’s enthusiasm for meditation is contagious. If it were up to her, daily meditation would be a mandatory practice for all.
“I wish everyone would meditate with the Health Hub. The calm would flow through the entire bank!”
